Staying Motivated After Your Offer Fails.

by Stephen Michalakos

If you're a buyer in the real estate market, you may have experienced the disappointment of having your offer rejected. It can be disheartening and downright discouraging to put in all the effort of finding the perfect property, only to have someone else swoop in and shine just a bit brighter. Most of the time, your offer is considered to be your "best" offer, and if you're following the advice of your agent, you have nothing to feel sorry about. It will still not be enough to take away the heart ache, I know; The best thing we can do to move on is to remember why you're doing this in the first place and to stay motivated despite setbacks.

First and foremost, remember that life is a competition. There will always be others vying for the same properties as you, and sometimes they may even have an advantage. However, this doesn't mean that you should give up on your dreams of owning a home. Instead, use this as motivation to work more diligently with your agent to find and strategicly the perfect property for you.

If you find that your search has become unravelled, take a (small) step back and evaluate your approach. Are there any areas where you could improve your strategy? Perhaps you need to be more aggressive in your bidding, or maybe you need to expand your search to include other neighborhoods or types of properties. Whatever it is, be willing to adjust your approach in order to increase your chances of success.

Of course, no two situations are exactly alike, but it's important to keep things in perspective. Remember that even qualifying to buy a home is a major accomplishment, and even if your offer falls through, you should be proud of yourself for putting in the effort. Be satisfied with your best attempts, and don't beat yourself up over things that are already in the past. Now get back out there and do what's right for you!
